Goodyear
has developed the 6.00-15 BlueStreak tire in a G-7 tread pattern.
This matches the 7.00 and 8.00-15 tread pattern to make a balanced
front/rear set available to Corvettes, Camaros, etc. And we again
have available the famous Goodyear for Formula Atlantic tire in
an R100 compound as well as the R093 and R160. The R100s are especially
successful on historic Formula Atlantic and 2-litre sports racing
cars where cars have little downforce. Dunlop is continuing to produce
the same size and same compound tires as they did in the '50s and
'60s for vintage racing. Dunlop will again supply the Formula Ford
tire in the softer 476 compound for light sports racing and production
cars, and for formula cars where legal.
Dunlop and Goodyear treaded tires are the original vintage racing
tires. As such they have the same diameters, widths, bias ply construction
and aspect ratios as vintage cars had when new. They also have the
same compound and degree of ³grippiness´ that we had when
vintage cars were new. The tires will last several races to an entire
season depending on several factors. Dunlop and Goodyear offer a
better price/performance ratio than ³softies´ that are
available. They retain the same handling characteristics and feel
as they did decades ago. Dunlop and Goodyear have gone through extensive
development over the years to ensure a tire with consistency and
reliability in their performance.
COMPOUNDS
Compounds available for Dunlop vintage racing tires are the traditional
204 (hard) and 484 (somewhat softer). Generally heavier, more powerful
cars use the harder compound for longer life, while lighter cars
choose the softer 484 compound. FIA rules for pre-'66 cars require
the 204 compound to reduce suspension load, as do the rules for
the HMSA in the U.S. Dunlop Formula Ford tires come in the traditional
9092 spec compound (medium) and in the new softer 476 compound.
The FFord 476 tire has been tested to be 1 to 1.5 seconds per lap
faster than the 9092. Formula V tires also come in the 476 compound.
Goodyear contemporary tires are available in a range of compounds
as shown in the spec sheet. Please inquire as to recommendations.
FORMULA FORD
The Dunlop 135/545-13 and 165/580-13 CR82 tires in the 9092 compound
have been the spec tires for Formula Ford racing in the UK. They
are also the spec tire for Monoposto RacingÀs Formula Ford
class again in 1997. These are excellent tires of modern construction
and compound. They last very well with drivers getting a year of
life. We recommend them for Formula Fords, Formula Juniors, sports
racing cars and production cars where rules allow them. The SVRA
allows the135/545-13 to be used in Group 1 and both tires to be
used in Groups 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8. |
FORMULA
JUNIOR
1997 Monoposto Racing rules require that Formula Juniors with 13"
wheels use the Dunlop 450L-13 and 550L-13 in a 204 compound, and
that 15" wheels use the 450L-15 and 500L-15 in 204. All of
these tires continue to be available in 1997.
CUSTOM GROOVING
The Dunlop Vintage, L, M and Post Historic tires and the Goodyear
Vintage Blue Streak tires have a factory molded tread pattern. All
the Dunlop and Goodyear contemporary slicks can be grooved by the
factory in the Dunlop CR82 or Goodyear G-15 tread pattern for intermediate
conditions or for where vintage rules require a vintage tread pattern.
All tires can also be grooved specially for flooded conditions.
Please inquire as to price.
ASPECT RATIOS
The traditional section width aspect ratio is defined as the section
height divided by the section width. The number varies with the
size of the rim for the same tire. It is not as helpful in judging
the appearance of a vintage racing tire as the tread width aspect
ratio (section height divided by tread width). Both ratios are shown
in the tables.
DIRECTION OF ROTATION
Dunlop race tires have a number, compound and construction stencilled
on one side of the tire sidewall. Goodyear racing tires have an
eight-digit serial code stencilled on the side of every tire. The
stencils should be mounted facing as follows:
