Second annual Ryan Handy One Lap to benefit Victory Junction Gang Camp
NJMP hosts second annual Ryan Handy One Lap

An idea hatched by Brian Walsh and Tim Murray of the IMSA RS 2.5 group, the second annual Ryan Handy One Lap was held at NJMP during the SVRA's fall '09 race. The RS guys came to Dave with the idea of doing something that would honor Ryan and raise some money for a worthy cause. After allot of thought, Victory Junction Gang Camp in North Carolina was chosen. Founded by Kyle and Patty petty in memory of their son Adam.Victory Junction Gang enriches the lives of children with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses by providing life-changing camping experiences that are exciting, fun, and empowering, in a safe and medically-sound environment. The whole camp has a racing theme and was an easy pick as Ryan loved to be at the track and involved with every aspect of the family business. Also Tim thought that here was a way for families and others that never get a chance to see the whole track to actually walk many of the track they just see from the pits. Walkers and runners were to get pledges from friends, families, co-workers etc. for their lap. To keep the competitive nature of racing, there would be awards given for the team with the most members and the team to raise the most money. The guys from GMT (Karlee Brown accepting the trophy from Jillian)won the trophy for most walkers this year, while the gang from VRS raised the most money. A raffle was also held with gifts donated from various generous sources, ranging from pace car rides, Ridemakerz cars and sets of tires. With perfect weather this year, about 50 people turned out to participate in the one lap and then head over to the party hosted by Vintage Racing Services for the raffle and tally of the funds. It actually took till the next day to total the donations, as they kept coming in! Dave was happy to announce the next day that we had raised over $13,000 for Victory Junction! Dave, Erica and Jillian thank everyone for allowing Ryan's memory to help such a worthy cause.
The Third Annual Ryan Handy One Lap will be once again at VIR during the Gold Cup Races in 2010. Make your plans to be there, and get your Raffle tickets early, as it's going to be bigger then ever!
